“Blue Monday” is a concept orginated in an advert released in 2005 by Skytravel Company, refering to the third Monday of the month of January as the most depressing day of the year. The variables of the equation apparently being: bad weather conditions, debt level, time since last holidays (supposedly you’ve already failed your New Years resolutions by this day)…
That being said, I don’t feel today is exceptionally depressing; isn’t the fact that it’s described in such a way that you are likely to agree? In fact, « Blue Mondays » happen once in a while, when all worst case scenarios seem to combine against you in a particular moment.
From my point of view it’s a matter of perspective over all, as you always can opt to see the bright side of things. Furthermore, from now on, what about turning this Monday as special and colorful as we are able to? I’m all about breaking the rules when it comes to established negative moments. 😉
So here are some tips for you to get over that gloomy mood whenever you need:
First of all, I’ll suggest you not to rely on those immediate pleasure procuring activities which you feel guilty about at the end of the day. It’s ony making it more tough for you to overcome difficulties. Let’s be honest, for sure binge eating, shopping or drinking are the first things you think about when you’re overwhelmed… You’re so blinded by your mood that they seem really attractive. Otherwise, there’s no dilemma regarding those practices if you show self-control.
If you’re not sure you can handle enjoying only ONE glass of wine or a cookie, prefer instead relaxing activities, which cost you almost nothing, and that satisfy you in the long term, such as:
- Hanging out with your loved ones
- Taking a hot bubble bath
- Sport practicing
- Taking a nap
As well as making your day better as you feel accomplished, they help switching your perspective for a fresh and more positive one.
From there, I wish you all a very productive and happy week,
See you next Monday!
